Lindsay Trout
Lindsay Trout was named executive principal for Region 1 in October 2023, after serving as principal at Terraset Elementary School.
Trout became principal of Terraset Elementary in 2012 where she led over 100 staff members and more than 600 students in preschool through sixth grade. At Terraset Elementary, she created Terraset Together, an initiative to “do better and be better” for all children and families, by seeking the voices of marginalized and underrepresented students and caregivers. She also created a literacy lab, started an Advanced Academics Level IV program, and oversaw a three-year school renovation project.
Trout values relationships with students, teachers, parents, and community members. She is a collaborative, caring leader who invests deeply in developing the capacity of individuals.
Trout started her career in education as a special education teacher at Hutchison Elementary School and later at Poplar Tree Elementary School where she taught students with mild, moderate, and severe disabilities. In 2002, she transferred to South Lakes High School where she served as the student government advisor, implemented a mentor-tutoring program, and taught special education and leadership classes.
In 2005, Trout became assistant director of student activities at South Lakes High School. She facilitated conflict resolutions among students, coaches, and parents. She also supported all school extracurricular and co-curricular clubs and activities. In 2007, she worked as an administrative intern at Dogwood Elementary School, Langston Hughes Middle School, and South Lakes High School.
In 2009, Trout became assistant principal at South Lakes High School. In this role, she was the instructional leader for the Math, World Languages, and ESOL departments and administrator to more than 600 freshmen. Trout led and managed the Taking Flight Peer to Peer Mentoring Program and the LEAD (Learning, Excelling, Achieving, and Disciplined) program to support freshmen.
Trout is a former president of the Fairfax Association of Elementary School Principals. She was the 2021 and 2022 Washington Post Principal of the Year Finalist, 2021 FCPS Outstanding Principal, 2014 Fairfax Federation of Teachers Top Rated Principal, 2013 FCPS Nancy Sprague Leadership Awardee, 2011 Best of Reston Honoree - Individual, 2011 Citizen of the Year Omega Psi Phi Fraternity (OKK Chapter), 2005 FCPS Teacher of the Year Nominee, and 2001 and 2004 Outstanding Teacher-Leader Award recipient.
Trout has a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from James Madison University. She has a Master of Arts in educational leadership from George Mason University.
